Duane Arruti

Duane Arruti

Chief Information Officer , Office of the CIO, for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Duane obtained his BBA from James Madison University and his MBA from the University of New Mexico. He joined the University of New Mexico as a staff member in 1996 and has held positions on Main Campus and at the Health Sciences Center.

Duane has taken a leadership role in a number of cross-campus technology initiatives, not the least of which was the UNM Banner implementation from 2002 to 2008. In his broad 20+ years at the University, Duane has served as Associate Controller for Financial Services, Associate Vice President for Human Resources and, for the last seven years, as Director of Enterprise Applications for UNM IT.

Duane is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and also serves as an Adjunct Faculty member at the Anderson School of Management. He was appointed CIO in 2016.

Brian Pietrewicz

Brian Pietrewicz

Deputy Chief Information Officer , Office of the CIO, for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Brian obtained his BA from Western Maryland College in 1996 and his MBA from Mount St Mary's University in 2008. He has 20 years of IT experience spanning public, private, and academic sectors and has served in roles ranging from System Engineer of a private liberal arts college to Chief Information Officer of a state institution with a budget of over $5.5B.

Brian has served as the Director of Computing Platforms for the University of New Mexico for the last 4 years and was named Deputy Chief Information Officer in 2016.

Jeff Gassaway

Jeff Gassaway

Information Security and Privacy Officer, Information Security & Privacy Office, for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Jeff Gassaway graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in English from the University of New Mexico, where he also earned his MBA. Jeff joined the University of New Mexico as a staff member in 1999 and has collaborated with stakeholders at Main, North, and Branch Campuses to advance principles of information security and privacy. 

Jeff has taken on leadership roles in information security and privacy initiatives at the local, state, and national levels, to bring value and opportunity to the faculty, staff, and students of University of New Mexico as well as to the diverse communities it serves. Most notable among these initiatives are UNM's effective and efficient credit card compliance program; New Mexico higher education information security working group; and New Mexico's premier computer foresics facility, the New Mexico Regional Computer Forensics Lab (NMRCFL).

In addition to national presentations on information security and privacy, and guest lecturing on information security and privacy topics, Jeff hold numerous certifications in information security and privacy, including Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) and Certified Information Systems Security Proessional (CISSP).

Shirley Alexander

Shirley Alexander

Information Technologies Human Resources Manager , Human Resources, for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Shirley Alexander holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources management & Organization Development and an MBA, and has a diverse background in Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Program & Project Management, Healthcare Administration and Health Information Management, Clinical Research, and Ethics.

Shirley has a diverse background in higher education and the private sector as a Human Resources Manager, Business Analyst, and Program Manager and has managed biomedical research programs, projects and ethics initiatives. She is a professional meditator and facilitator trained in conflict resolution in workplace and employee relations issues. As an alumnus and a Lobo for more than 20 years, Shirley serves as a mentor and advisor to our UNM students. 

Kirsten Martinez

Kirsten Martinez

Director , Information Technologies Fiscal Operations , for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Kirsten Martinez has an MBA and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the Anderson School of Management at UNM. Kirsten joined UNM IT in 2005 and is currently the Fiscal Operations Director, overseeing IT business operations, including finance, human resources, administrative services, IT project management for capital projects, and IT facilities. She holds ITIL Foundation and Service Strategy certifications and is a member of the IT Financial Management Association. Kirsten has extensive background in university accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis and has assisted in internal process-improvements, included development of service level agreements, service costing, and service catalog. Kirsten has also presented at national conferences on behalf of UNM IT, including Educause, the Associate for College & University Technology Advancement (ACUTA) and local conferences, including NM Technology in Education (NMTIE), and Tech Days at UNM.

Elisha Allen

Elisha Allen

Director, Academic Technologies , for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Elisha Allen holds an M.B.A. and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design with a minor in Spanish from UNM, and is also an alumnus of the Online Learning Consortium/Penn State Institute for Emerging Leadership in Online Learning. Elisha has been working on the design and development of online course delivery, educational multimedia, knowledge management systems, and web-based applications since 1995.

Elisha has a long history of technical management at UNM and a deep functional understanding of the teaching and learning mission from admission to graduation. He provides leadership for the Learning Management System and academic applications, video production and conferencing, classroom technologies, campus computing labs, technologies for surveys and elections, faculty evaluations, test scoring, and digital signage. Elisha is also a previous Staff Council President.

Greg Gaillard

Associate Director, IT Campus Outreach and Engagement, for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Greg graduated from Vassar College in 1988 with a degree in Philosophy. He joined the UNM IT community in 1998 as an Associate Director at the Health Sciences Center. Prior to his position at the HSC, he spent nine years working for the Medical College of Georgia in several roles including technology support for clinical and academic areas. 

In 2008 Greg took a unique IT management opportunity at the Anderson School of Management to align Anderson IT services with campus-wide initiatives in a manner that was beneficial for the school and UNM community.  As the Associate Director of Campus Outreach and Engagement, he works with UNM’s Information Technology Officers and others to foster a UNM IT culture of creative problem solving with effective results.

Elaine Rising

Elaine Rising

Associate Director, IT Community Outreach and Engagement, for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Elaine Rising holds a BBA and an MBA, both from Southern Methodist University.  She began her career at American Airline’s corporate headquarters as a senior planning analyst, and has held positions as a project manager, consultant, or owner operator for companies ranging from large, publicly traded companies to small local companies.

Elaine joined UNM’s College of Pharmacy in 2012 and then UNM IT in 2014, where she has served as a program specialist in charge of external funding (grants and sponsorships), business analyst in the Project Management office, and now associate director of community programs and strategic initiatives.

Elaine holds both the Information Technology Information Library Foundations and the Project Management Professional certification.

Alesia Torres

Alesia Torres

Director, Applications , for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Alesia has extensive experience managing multiple areas of the IT Enterprise, including Infrastructure, Security, Help Desk, Application Development and Application Support. She has coached, mentored and built IT teams that are accountable for delivering software solutions, stable/scalable technology environments, and strategic objectives, as well as the creation and execution of staffing plans and internal KPIs.

Initially a software developer, Alesia transitioned into management twelve years ago, collaborating with leadership and cross-functional team members to create and execute standards and processes for application selection, development and implementation. Alesia has delivered software solutions and strategies for local and global industries, managing all aspects of software development and infrastructure projects, from analysis through implementation, including change management.

At UNM, Alesia has also served as the subject matter expert and team member on lean continuous improvement projects, both at the organizational and departmental level. In addition, she has collaborated with executive management to contribute to UNM’s vision and strategic objectives, create the IT 5-year technology roadmap, and participate in IT governance.

Alesia recently won a 2018 Women in Technology recognition award from the New Mexico Technology Council.

Tammy Jo (TJ) Martinez

Tammy Jo (TJ) Martinez

Director, IT Customer Support , for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

TJ joined UNM IT in March 2011, and has extensive experience serving in multiple IT project management, help desk support, customer service and service management roles, from business systems administration to evaluating customer requirements, guiding the implementation of service management tools and directing the improvement of service delivery.

In 2015, she received a Women in Technology recognition award from the New Mexico Technology Council, and also serves as the President of the HDI Rio Grande Chapter. TJ is very active in UNM activities, serving on the Board for the Greater Albuquerque Area Alumni Chapter, as well as acting as a mentor for students in MGT 630.

Steve Perry

Steve Perry

Director, Networks , for Information Technologies (IT) at UNM

Steve has worked in the Communications and Information Technology field since 1985. He has a master's degree in IS, and many vendor and industry certifications in Voice, Networks, Network Design, and Network Security.

Steve joined UNM IT in 2014. Prior to UNM, Steve led many diverse communications/network teams during his military career, taught Cisco Network Academy courses at Central New Mexico Community College (where he continues to teach part time), led a Network/Voice Team with a large Health Care organization, and most recently served as a Systems Engineer for Cisco Systems, Inc.

Steve manages the voice and data networks for the University. This responsibility includes the fiber/cable plant facilities, and fire and security alarms over the network.
