IT Dashboard 2012

To enable UNM to deliver on its core education, research, clinical and administrative missions, to respond to audit findings and to keep UNM IT current with industry standards and best practices, the following initiatives are underway in IT this fiscal year. Many of the key objectives below consist of projects with milestones that will extend into future years. In a constrained economic climate, IT can be counted on to bring excellent return on investment.

The dashboard missed an update cycle because of delays in IT strategic planning. Significant accomplishments since August 2011, reflected below include the following (refer to 2010-2011 Dashboard for prior status):

  • Campus site license in place for MatLab for faculty and students, SPSS in all IT Pods, as well as the Microsoft OS and Office Suite for faculty and staff. Reduced pricing for Microsoft products for all public, Higher Ed schools in the State. Progress is being made on Adobe offerings.
  • In early February, the Request For Proposal for the UNM network redesign was launched.
  • The switches in buildings at the edge of the network is 5/7 completed enabling more reliable wired and wireless service as well as VoIP.
  • Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), required for much federally-funded research, was successfully piloted.
  • The ring for the Western Regional Network has been completed to more economically manage network traffic.
  • A research network has been established, separate from the campus data network.
  • Security and penetration testing are routinely conducted on the network.
  • The Help.UNM implementation has been completed to provide a standard ticketing interface and service for UNM IT, University Hospital IT and Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center IT. This is a significant step in the journey of continuous improvement of service delivery, and more enhancements are planned to follow.
