Modifying Your E-mail Program to Work With Your NetID Account

If you’re using an e-mail program other than Webmail to access your e-mail, you may need to make some minor modifications to allow authentication.

Note: The default account type is IMAP. IT recommends you use IMAP instead of POP because IMAP makes it easier for you to acccess your e-mail from multiple computers. You may use POP if you have a specific need for that configuration.

This is the generic information needed to configure a connection to UNM main campus e-mail using an @unm.edu address.
User Name: NetID
Account or Service type: IMAP or IMAP4
Incoming Mail server: mail.unm.edu
Secure connection (SSL): Required
Port: 993

Note: Do NOT enable Secure Password Authentication (SPA)

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is used to send outgoing email.
User Name: NetID
Outgoing mail server: smtp.unm.edu
Secure connection (SSL): Required
Port: 465

Choose your specific e-mail application from the following FastInfo answer list for instructions on how to configure your program for both incoming mail and outgoing mail. Where instructions indicate to enter your NetID enter your UNM NetID.
