Wireless Printing a service provided by the IT department at UNM that allows students, faculty and staff to print wirelessly from their personal computers to Pharos controlled printers on the UNM campus.
Do I have to use a laptop or can I send print jobs from my desktop computer in my dorm room? Can I print from anywhere?
For now, you will need to print using the UNM wireless networks Lobo-Wifi or Lobo-Sec. As long as your desktop has a wireless card and can connect to these networks, you will be able to print to Pharos controlled printers.
Where do I get the wireless printing software?
You can get the wireless printing software at the IT Download page. Find the software listed under Windows and Macintosh at the Print to Campus Pod and Library Locations heading.
Do I need to download new software for every computer lab on campus?
Yes and no. For the IT Computer Pods, only one download is required. If you want to use the library printers (Centennial, Parish, Zimmerman, etc.), you will need to download software for each library location you require.
What versions of Windows are supported?
Windows XP, Vista, and 7. 32-bit only. The software does not support 64-bit Windows computer at this time.
What versions of Macintosh OSX are supported?
Versions 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6
When I install the printer software on my Windows computer, I see the error, "Installing WiFi_Q_on_IT153PHAROS01_for_WK2... The install failed with error 'AddPrinter failed with error= The remote procedure call failed.'" and the installation fails. What does this mean?
If you receive this message while installing on a Windows 7 computer, you mostly likely were installing without Administrator Privileges. To correct this,
Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers and remove the WIFI_Q printer.
Return to the installer file, IT_Wireless_Printing.exe, right-click, and select Run as Administrator.
I've installed the software, now how do I print?
Print as usual. Ctrl+p or, on a Mac comand+p. If you use the menu, File> Print. Confirm that you have a WIFI_Q printer selected.
How long will my print job stay in the queue?
Two (2) hours. Each print job sent to Pharos printer remains available to print for two hours. This applies to any print job sent to a Pharos printer. Print jobs are deleted from the print queue after two (2) hours.
I sent my print job to a Pharos printer (pod or library) on campus, but when I swipe my LOBO ID at the print release station, my print job isn't listed. What happened?
Verify that that it has NOT been two hours since you sent your print job. Verify that you did not send your print job to the wrong printer. Be sure to select a WIFI_Q printer.
Does wireless printing cost extra?
No. Like pod printing, single-side prints are five 5) cents each, and double-side prints are eight (8) cents each.
