The Daily Lobo reported on October 28 that the Faculty Senate "endorsed an email proposal originally presented at a Sep. 28 meeting. At that meeting, the Office of the Chief Information Officer suggested consolidating email systems into a University-wide system." Senators had been asked to discuss the proposal with their departments. Concerns were raised about email security but the endorsement passed. The Office of the CIO is expected to take the proposal to the Executive Cabinet by mid-November.

The vision for a single email solution was articulated in late 2009 and eight open forums were hosted on main, north and west campuses, as well as an online survey to to gather input. More information about the Email initiative may be found at the CIO's website.
