Pods & Classroom Use Guidelines

In order to preserve the quality and availability of IT computer pods and classrooms for members of the UNM community in their academic pursuits, the following guidelines are enforced for using an IT pod or classrooms.

These activities are not allowed:

  • Food or drink (other than bottled water) near the computers

  • Computer game playing.

  • Equipment use for commercial gain.

  • Printing more than one copy of a document.

  • Printing documents in excess of 20 pages during pod prime times.

Who may use the pods:

  • Students and faculty have priority for using the pods and classrooms.

  • Staff and UNM affiliates with NetIDs also may use the pod computers

  • Priority for classroom scheduling is given to academic classes.

Scheduling and Availability:

  • The two IT training centers are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • UNM-sponsored conferences may use pods and classrooms, for a fee, during times that will not cause a conflict with the students and faculty using the facility. (For example, conferences may not use the classrooms when they are scheduled for academic classes, and may not use the pods during peak times such as midterms and prior to finals.)

Viewing material of sexual content:

The University of New Mexico (as is the case at other universities) does not limit or filter traffic on its network based on content. Therefore, if a pod customer is viewing sexually explicit material that can easily be seen by nearby people, and is found by any one of those people to be objectionable, and create a hostile, unsafe environment, the customer will be asked to move by those offended to a place where the material cannot be seen by those surrounding clientele.

If a customer is reported to be allegedly viewing any material that is prohibited by law, the UNM police department will be called to investigate the situation.
